Jonathan Edwards, World record holder at Triple Jump (18,29 metres) since 1995 and famous TV
commentator and presenter will participate in the European Athletics Council held in Barcelona
from 8 until 10 November. Edwards, who is part of the 13 council members, announced that he will
get to Barcelona on Sunday.

The EA Council consists of 19 people. Lead by the Swiss president of European Athletics (EA),
Hansjörg Wirz, two vice-presidents (José Luis de Carlos, general coordinator of the Royal Spanish
Athletics Federation and first vice-president), the treasurer, 13 council members, general
coordinator Christian Milz and IAAF president Lamine Diack. The latter already announced that he
won’t be present during the congress in Barcelona and will be represented in person of the general
coordinator Pierre Weiss.

Another great former athlete, Ludmila Olijare from Latvia, is also part of the council members. The
ex hurdler is the mother and coach of the current European 110m Hurdles champion Stanislav
Olijars.

The EA Council will unite in Barcelona for the first time and get together in Hotel Pullman Barcelona
Skipper. The main topic on the agenda is the decision about the venue of the 21st edition of the
European Athletics Championships. Helsinki is the great favourite to host the event in 2012. The
capital of Finland will most likely turn into the city that organised this competition in most occasions,
as the editions in 1971 and 1994 were already celebrated in the Scandinavian country. The
decision will be announced on Monday at 2pm.

The council will also discuss different current topics regarding Barcelona 2010. It is expected that
they will approve the competition timetable during the meeting, taking the latest adjustments
realised during the World Broadcaster Meeting into consideration, as well as the Marathon and
Race Walking circuit. Monica Barra, general coordinator of next year’s European Championships,
will give an insight about the latest progress of Barcelona 2010 in a 15 minute presentation.
