a. How far can Luchini pace KB, considering he'll have to pass 5K sub-13:10? b. I'm happy to see Abebe Dinkesa is now an American c. Why so few Ami's in the w5K with 3 weeks plus till the OT (I'm assuming that's too short a turn-around for the men, or I'd ask the same for the m10K - except Abdi is in there!) ?

i will try to guess at your questions
a. bekele based on the hengelo 5k he ran is in 26:40 for 10k shape so i guess luchini paces for 3k.
b. dinkesa probably decided to become an american because he thinks the usa team in his events will be easier to make than ethiopia's, and he wants to run the usa road championships that offer american only money. (haha)
c. jenny rhines is on the oslo 5k startlist on friday. kara goucher will probably enter the race in a few days if she feels recovered from her 31:26 10k last week.
in the mens 10k i heard hansons is putting on a last chance to qualify for the trials on june 7th, but the list of runners entered in that meet i guess dont feel up to racing k. bekele at this point in thier careers, abdi probably hopes the field can pull him to an american record. galen rupp would have run, but he is injured having to pull out of a 5k last week at 10 laps limping badly, rupp just hopes to be ready for the trials 10 k.
these are just guesses, question b my answer is an attempt to be silly.
I'm really excited about this attempt, and sorry that I'll miss seeing it in person because I have to work instead!
I'll be setting up my TIVO to record the meet, and I hope that the 10K will be covered well.
And that leads me to a question: If you were to be appointed TV Director (or is it Producer) for The Day, how would you cover an event like this one? Given the time constraints, need for commercials, etc., I think that we can safely assume that not much of the race will be shown, but I think (with no actual understanding of how TV productions work), that the entire race could be recorded in the morning, and careful editing might allow viewers to get some sense of drama/continuity rather than the all too frequent pattern of start... commercial... last lap.
Suggestions from fellow TV watchers--- or even from Walt Murphy?
By chance, this meet will mark my first visit back to Hayward Field since the NCAA meet in '78, exactly 30 yrs ago. I think my timing is pretty good.... %-)

The men's 10k and women's 5k will be taped, but I can't guarantee how much of each race will make it into the live show. The good news is that the plan is to eventually place the full races online at NBCSports.com (don't know how soon after the meet that will happen). I
6 days later, and I still can't find the Pre 10,000 or w5000 on any NBC Web site. The lesson here, for you folks that missed them, is to go to the meet in person!
Was truly amazing to see Bekele cranking out 63's and 64's for 25 laps. Luchini didn't do the best job pacing but the next rabbit got them through the first 5K right on pace. But too much energy had been spent getting time back and then having to do it on his own was just too much. Still, an amazing performance.
Pacing in the women's 5K was not good at all. Got behind early and it was over. But again, just getting to see Defar run was incredible.
