No action from Hastings since Rome July 13, at least from what I can glean from the IAAF yearly list. That was 50.34. She is going to be one very interesting sprinter to watch. I hope.

i don't trust russians over 400m at champs apart from antyuk in athens i can;t remember the last time they medalled despite the the times. the same goes for 2nd rank americans. i also can't see either of the Jam as world champ. i'm going for either of the old timers. Thiam or Guavera who always rise the occasion and i have to put faith in my girls NIcola. i'm going to get a progress report tomorrow so fingers crossed

I have faith in Nicola reaching the final but I don't see anything happening beyond that this season, unfortunately...but the race is WIDE WIDE open having said that. I agree about the Russians and (in this case) ALL the Americans...I just can't see them taking it. Even Williams, ranked #1 here, has been patchy- Sanders beat her recently. It's going to be an interesting race...but I agree, Thiam and Guevara could well have it handed to em if they are in decent enough form

If I wanted to bet on this race I'd put it on Thiam at those odds...she's looked back to her WC winning self this season at times and 7-1 ain't bad odds

Though I wouldn't bet on this race AT ALL, having said that...!

Yes, I've gotten in there on Ohurogo as well...I'm a bit more conservative but £5 e/w and £1 to win at 50/1 would do me !

I do a spread of bets usually...only on the athletics and the Eurovision each year !!! I've never failed to be in profit at the end...we'll see

Ohurugou has had two races. I suspect she won't cope well with the rounds so I will hold onto my £££.......

As someone said earlier, its likely she has been concentrating on strength anyway thanks to not being able to race- I'd imagine that, which was the strong point of her race ANYWAY, will easily see her through the rounds.

And at 50/1, that is absolutely a chance worth taking for a fiver...

Gee, there's a lot of talk here about an entrant that'll need to improve almost another second to win gold...

Who do you see running 49.5? None of the other entrants are in that kind of form at the moment.

Someone might scrape under 50 (and I hope to God the title isn't won with a time outside of 50 seconds) but there won't be any earth-shattering times.

And anyway, I placed an each-way bet on Christine. After today's performance, a top-three finish isn't out of the question.

Novlene finished ahead of Nicola in their two meetings this year - at Crystal Palace and at Lausanne. But in their first race, there was 1.10 seconds between them. In the next one, the gap was down to 0.06.

I checked after I wrote that and realised I was wrong...

And yes, of course there's a lot of talk- there isn't anything else going on today and so of course there is going to be excitement about someone who has gone from 53.0 to 50.5 in her first two races back...

BUt yes, I don't see anyone running massively sub-50. I can see a 1993 style final coming- wide open and won just inside 50 seconds with 51 secs proving enough to make the final

We'll see!

Don't forget it's a (patentedly) super speedy track :)

Koch might have run 46.5 on it...

loads of the womens track events are looking to be highly competitive. Still a huge shame Sanya isn't in this race though.

Yes Mump we are looking @ Valencia. I have already booked Beijing.

i only posted odds from the bookie to add a bit more "flavour" to the discussions - it wasn't meant to be an incentive to gamble

If we were of a mood to keep tweaking the formchart, which we're 'not, obviously Ohuruogu would now find herself somewhere in the top 10.
