No action from Hastings since Rome July 13, at least from what I can glean from the IAAF yearly list. That was 50.34. She is going to be one very interesting sprinter to watch. I hope.
1. Novlene Williams (Jamaica) 2. Natalya Antyukh (Russia) 3. Ami Mbacké Thiam (Senegal) 4. Ana Guevara (Mexico) 5. Natasha Hastings (US) 6. Tatyana Veshkurova (Russia) 7. Mary Wineberg (US) 8. Shericka Williams (Jamaica) 9. Nicola Sanders (Great Britain) 10. Dee Dee Trotter (US)
i don't trust russians over 400m at champs apart from antyuk in athens i can;t remember the last time they medalled despite the the times. the same goes for 2nd rank americans. i also can't see either of the Jam as world champ. i'm going for either of the old timers. Thiam or Guavera who always rise the occasion and i have to put faith in my girls NIcola. i'm going to get a progress report tomorrow so fingers crossed

Hastings ran at Stockholm on 8/7. She finished 6th in 51.50.

I have faith in Nicola reaching the final but I don't see anything happening beyond that this season, unfortunately...but the race is WIDE WIDE open having said that. I agree about the Russians and (in this case) ALL the Americans...I just can't see them taking it. Even Williams, ranked #1 here, has been patchy- Sanders beat her recently. It's going to be an interesting race...but I agree, Thiam and Guevara could well have it handed to em if they are in decent enough form
If I wanted to bet on this race I'd put it on Thiam at those odds...she's looked back to her WC winning self this season at times and 7-1 ain't bad odds
Though I wouldn't bet on this race AT ALL, having said that...!

I do a spread of bets usually...only on the athletics and the Eurovision each year !!! I've never failed to be in profit at the end...we'll see
i've never bet on anything before so not even sure what i'm doing. i think i'm just gettting a bit over excited at the mo. but considering i'm not leaving the house for the next 11 days i can afford to entertain myself at home
the flump and i are putting £100 in a pot and seeing what we can do with it

As someone said earlier, its likely she has been concentrating on strength anyway thanks to not being able to race- I'd imagine that, which was the strong point of her race ANYWAY, will easily see her through the rounds.
And at 50/1, that is absolutely a chance worth taking for a fiver...

Novlene finished ahead of Nicola in their two meetings this year - at Crystal Palace and at Lausanne. But in their first race, there was 1.10 seconds between them. In the next one, the gap was down to 0.06.

I checked after I wrote that and realised I was wrong...
And yes, of course there's a lot of talk- there isn't anything else going on today and so of course there is going to be excitement about someone who has gone from 53.0 to 50.5 in her first two races back...
BUt yes, I don't see anyone running massively sub-50. I can see a 1993 style final coming- wide open and won just inside 50 seconds with 51 secs proving enough to make the final

but not before i got in there with £20 each way bet. i blame eldrick but i can see this WC as a slippery slope
don't blame me !
i only posted odds from the bookie to add a bit more "flavour" to the discussions - it wasn't meant to be an incentive to gamble
eldy you're like apusher if i end up standing outsides ladbrokes with a can of tennants begging for change to put on alysa turova it WILL be your fault
